today my PE class decided to celebrate this momentous holiday by faking a seizure. Not the whole class, just a few of them conspired against me. Don't worry people! I am NO DUMBY! I didn't fall for it, but it was a good story, so here it goes for those of you that are interested:
We were playing basketball today, so I went into the equipment room to get some pennies (pennies = gross, torn, old, mesh vests). When I came out, a kid in my class, lets call him Tim threw a football to code name Larry. Larry missed the ball and ran full on into the bleachers and fell to the floor. I wasn't really paying too much attention because they are always doing random weird stuff. So, then he starts seizing. Well, it didn't really look like a seizure, and here is why I didn't believe him:
1. when we run at the beginning of class, they play follow the leader, and that usually involved running circles around whoever happens to come into the gym (their real teacher, the vice principal) and jumping over the trash can.
2. Almost everyday they request a smoke break
3. Earlier today, they had requested that we have 'naked mile Monday' (they were shut down)
4. they play an imaginary game called Laire, and they get real mad when I call it dungeons and dragons.
Anyways... this is why I wasn't concerned. But then Tim runs over and starts freaking out, and he was pretty convincing until he told someone to go and get some peanuts. Peanuts? You aren't supposed to put stuff in someones mouth if their having a seizure. Anyways... I told them I was an EMT (to get them to admit their lies) and he wasn't having a seizure. After a little debate, they finally conceded (Mrs. Carter 1, High school boys, 0). Sooo glad I know first aid... because even if he was having a seizure and I didn't do anything, its not a big deal unless he hits his head (and he was holding it up off the ground, clue 1) But the really funny part is that after Larry got up, Tim started getting really mad at him for having a fake looking seizure because they had watched a bunch of seizure videos last night in preparation for this prank! I thought it was pretty funny. These same boys had also filled up their pricipal's office with newspaper this morning. High School April fools is definately better than college April Fools
sorry for the long pictureless post, but I realized I haven't told any student teaching stories really, and I wanted to remember some of them.
I realize now that I should have just gotten my cell phone out of my pocket and pretended to call 9-1-1. Why do my awesome ideas always come too late?
