Haunted China

So. Halloween was SWEET. I must admit, I wasn't too excited, I mean, China doesn't celebrate Halloween, and my students don't know the words 'ghost' or 'haunted' so it was useless to try to explain to them. So, I wasn't anticipating anything special.

However, I was sorely mistaken. A couple of girls in our program invited us to their city for the weekend and they said they had a surprise for us. And it was not that they have discovered some awesome candy called 'monkey milk' (which is awesome). Their surprised turned out to be a haunted pagoda! How sweet is that? Some of their students had told them about it, so we took a taxi out to the middle of nowhere and climbed this hill to a totally abandoned pagoda that was about five stories high. So cool! It was really crazy, because on every floor, you had to find the stairs up to the next floor. They were different on every story! It was a little spooky when it started to get dark and I was wondering around this circular maze looking for the next set of stairs since everyone ditched me!

Then we got to the top and we heard a Yeti. Then we are pretty sure we saw a couple too, waiting for us at the bottom.

It was really cool on the top, since China doesn't really worry about guard rails, we were just sitting on the edge of the tower. It was a beautiful night. I think I saw three stars...

The evening ended with descending a couple levels, lighting candles and telling scary stories. Too bad I can't really remember any good ones. I do remember one about a glowing green dwarf standing on some guys chest while he slept scaring the pants off me as a child, but sadly, the glowing greenness is just about all I remember from the story.

According to the blogs I have been reading, you all had some sweet Halloweens too! Hurray!

Ummm... ya. It's sad to think that you had a more exciting Halloween in CHINA then we did. The Carter's out did us again. Blast. (sounds awesome though!)

Cool! I love haunted places, especially when there is a maze involved. Wish I was with you guys!

It does sound awesome. I think we should build one in our yard...a haunted old shack in the woods behind our house.
